Oral Histories are a unique way to learn about history from the people who experienced it. Learn about the "Voices of Wilmette: an Oral History Project" launching this spring at the Wilmette Historical Museum and Wilmette Public Library, and about recording your own oral history interview from presenter Rebecca Hopman.
Introducing "Voices of Wilmette: an Oral History Project," a collaborative project to collect stories from the Wilmette community during the village's sesquicentennial. As partners, the Wilmette Public Library and Wilmette Historical Museum will record, collect, and archive these stories. Learn more about this project, including the new "Oral History Kits" available to check out at the Wilmette Library.
Then, learn more about oral histories from presenter Rebecca Hopman, an archivist, historian, and librarian in the Chicagoland area. Oral histories are a unique way to learn about history from the people who experienced it. In this presentation, you will learn what an oral history is, how to record one, and why oral histories are an important way of documenting community stories.
