Join author Suzanne Slade and illustrator Cozbi A. Cabrera as they discuss the creation of their award-winning picture book, Exquisite.
Sibert Honor author Suzanne Slade and Caldecott Honor illustrator Cozbi A. Cabrera will discuss the creation of their picture book, Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks. This stunning children's biography about the incomparable Gwendolyn Brooks, who became the first African American author to receive the Pulitzer Prize, received a Sibert Honor and Coretta Scott King Honor. Both Slade and Cabrera live in the Chicago area, like Brooks, a Bronzeville resident who served as Poet Laureate of Illinois for over 30 years. Join the fun and hear about the exciting process of creating this award-winning book including research, revisions, sketches, final art, and much more. The author and illustrator also look forward to answering any and all of your curious questions.
