Virtual program -

Authors Shanterra McBride, MA and Rosalind Wiseman will discuss their book, "Courageous Discomfort: How to Have Important, Brave, Life-Changing Conversations about Race and Racism".

For anyone who wants to have better, more productive discussions about race, Courageous Discomfort: How to Have Important, Brave, Life-Changing Conversations about Race and Racism is an empowering handbook that teaches you how handle whatever situation you find yourself in with skill, confidence, and dignity. It’s written by a Black woman and a white woman who are best friends, they are also nationally recognized facilitators, speakers, and thought leaders on education, culture, and community building who are uniquely positioned to bring people together.

In the book, authors Shanterra McBride, MA and Rosalind Wiseman (FAN ’13, ’20) ask readers 20 common, uncomfortable-but-critical questions about racism. The authors discuss their own friendship and tap into their decades of anti-racism work to answer these 20 questions-as-chapters that invite readers into the conversation without judgment and inspire thoughtful reflection and discussion.

McBride and Wiseman will be in conversation with Marlon I. Cummings, Ph.D., associate professor of educational and organizational leadership at Governors State University in University Park, IL.

BONUS AFTER-HOURS EVENT: Attendees who purchase a copy of Courageous Discomfort from FAN’s partner bookseller The Book Stall are invited to attend an AFTER-HOURS event hosted by McBride and Wiseman that will start immediately after the webinar. Details on the webinar registration page.

This event suitable for youth 12+. It will be recorded and available on the FAN website and YouTube channel.
